It's been 80 days since my surgery. EIGHTY!! That is insane. But what is more insane is that I am STILL NOT WALKING!!! WTF foot?! I went back to the doctor last Wednesday and he said he is a little bit concerned that the bone has not completely fused yet. He said two of the three x-rays looked perfect, but one x-ray view showed a slight dark line between the bones and he wants to be SURE that is it completely fused before letting me walk in a regular shoe. He is 90% sure I am fine, but said that the dramatic decrease in bone density in my foot could be causing the fusion to take longer. He said once I start walking in the boot regularly, the bone density should increase which will help. So, I am in the boot for two more weeks! The doctor also fitted me for orthotics to use when I start walking normally to give some extra support for my weakling foot. I pick them up in two weeks.
I am proud to announce that I am officially crutch free! (Except in the middle of the night when I have to go to the bathroom, and I am too tired to hop) I am getting much more mobility in my big toe joint and I can slowly and carefully walk on my bare foot around the house on the carpet. Okay, so I lied, I CAN walk, but to me, its not really walking - its more like a weird limp. Anyway, I can also roll my ankle around (FINALLY!) and I can spell the alphabet with my foot! I remember not too long ago when I'd try with all of my might moving my foot left to right and it wouldn't budge. The couch was my only home! But today, I am spending more time in the kitchen and cleaning and nearly back to normal life! Today I spent a few hours out and about grocery shopping and running errands in my boot and by the end of the day, my foot ached, but it didn't really hurt. So, all of this is a good sign for our upcoming trip to Seattle!
And for your viewing pleasure, here are some before and after pics!
